WHO WANTS TO BE GREAT ANYWAY?

This is the way some of us sound to people in authority when we want to do something "exceptional" and we want their permission and support. **Dear Boss,
I want to do something exceptional. This idea is so great that it can change this company totally for the better. But the risks are really high. So, boss, please give me permission and authority. If I fail, you will take all the blame. If I succeed, I will take all the glory. **Dear Investor,
I want to start an exceptional business that will revolutionize the world. This business idea is so awesome that this world will completely change for the better. But the stakes are really high. So, investor, here is my proposition. Give me your money. If I fail, the loss is yours. If I succeed, the profit and the company and the glory is mine alone. **Dear Parent,
I want to take a crucial decision that will make me exceptional. This idea is the best thing that I think can happen to me. I know it might seem really ridiculous. I also know that you are still sponsoring me. So here is my proposition. If I go ahead to take the decision and I fail, all your money would come to waste and the shame will be yours. But if I succeed, that is my business.
That is the way many of us have come to approach exceptionality. And we keep "approaching", and never attaining. No one is ready to trust us. Or support us. And we are wondering why.
The truth is that you have not sufficiently proven that you have the capacity to make certain critical decisions that can translate to success, much less exceptionality.
