NASA: Mars Is Stripped Of Chance To Support Life

Solar winds have transformed Mars from a warm
and wet environment that could have supported
life to the cold, arid planet it is today, according
to NASA.

It said the atmosphere has been chipped away at
for billions of years and is still happening today but at a far lower rate with around 100 grams of
gas escaping every second.

The rate of escape increases significantly during
solar storms, scientists found after observing one
such deluge in March.

"Like the theft of a few coins from a cash register every day, the loss becomes significant over
time," said Bruce Jakosky of NASA's Mars

The MAVEN probe witnessed a powerful series
of storms in March 2015.

The solar wind speeds at about one million miles
per hour and is made up of a stream of particles mainly protons and electrons.

"The combination of greater loss rates and
increased solar storms in the past suggests that
loss of atmosphere to space was likely a major
process in changing the Martian climate," said a
NASA statement.

Luckily, the Earth's magnetic field prevents our
own atmosphere being attacked in the same way.

What a wonderful Earth from a wonderful Creator.

The space agency made the hannouncement at a
live event from its Washington HQ.
NASA is planning a mission to Mars by 2030
after recently saying that water flows
intermittently on the planet.
